WPPS Resthaven Visit
On Tuesday of Week 2, M6 and M7 walked to Resthaven Westbourne Park for an excursion as part of our 'Then and Now' Project Week. The students paired up with a resident and asked them some questions to learn about the past. We learnt about what they did as kids, their favourite toys, as well as learnt about their home and school life. We even met a lady who went to Westbourne Park Primary School over 80 years ago! We had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back soon.
Here are some reflections from some of our students in M6 and M7:
"I felt excited and happy to visit Resthaven because we haven't been there before"- Claire
"I enjoyed seeing what old people look like and liked learning about the olden days"- Jacob
"I learnt that one of the residents lived in Renmark when they were little" -Georgia R
"I learnt that people grew up on the farm"- Brooklyn
"It was fun because you got to learn about what life was like in the olden days. It surprised me that some people were in their 90s! - Hartley
"It was cool because we got to learn what life was like in the olden days" - Max
Pedal Prix News
Three Westbourne Park Race Teams from upper primary (Years 5 and 6) competed in their third race of the 2025 Human Powered Vehicle Championship (a.k.a Pedal Prix) on Saturday 2nd of August.
Over 200 teams from around Australia converged at 'The Bend' motorsport facility near Tailem Bend for an early and foggy start to the 8 hour endurance race. Our riders were split across three racing trikes: Turbo, Westwind and Airbourne. The early fog gave way to a sunny and calm day, with some of our riders able to achieve average lap speeds of up to 37km/h (very impressive for 10-12 year olds!)
Our three teams performed exceptionally throughout the day, with our two newer trikes, Westwind and Airborne battling it out for podium places in the pointy end of the 32 Junior School teams. Along with the fantastic physical efforts of our riders, our students were fantastic competitors and team-mates throughout the day; cheering on riders, helping with pit stops and mixing it up with other riders and teams.
In the closing hours of the race, with tired legs, our riders continued to rotate through the trikes with smiles on their faces. There were some extraordinary performances of determination, with students putting in late 45+ minute stints in the trikes, still with excellent pace
At the end of the day, all three trikes crossed the finish line of the 8 hour race, with a combined race distance of over 600kms between our teams!
To top off the great day, we also walked away with some fantastic results:
- Turbo finished the 2025 series in the top half of the field with a solid 15th in the Junior Schools category after three strong and determined races!
- Airbourne finished in 3rd overall from all Junior teams for the race and took out 3rd for the 2025 National series!
- The all-girls team in Westwind won the 2025 National Championship for the Junior Girls subcategory after winning their race category (Junior girls) on the day. Westwind finished in 9th overall for Junior School teams for 2025. Laura Malon also took out fastest lap for the Junior Girls at The Bend and the race at Victoria Park.
Due to our great results in the 2025 Series, we have qualified for the 24 hour ultra-endurance race at Murray Bridge in September. This is a fantastic opportunity for students and families to be part of the largest 24 hour human powered vehicle race in the world.
On behalf of the Westbourne Park Race Team organisers, we would like to thank riders, parents, volunteers, flag marshals and the WPPS teachers and community for making this opportunity available for our students.
Pedal Prix is run by volunteers and relies on fundraising and sponsorship to make it possible. If any WPPS families or business would like to sponsor the WPRT, please contact the front office or James Telford.
Fresh Bites Cafe - Canteen News
Thank you to everyone who recently purchased a Showdown Donut for their child, once again the Crows took out the win in the donut stakes by a very healthy margin! I hope the children enjoyed their Showdown Donut or Showdown Cookie regardless of which, if any, AFL team they support.
Thank you also for your support of my Book Week treats. Each term I like to do some 'special days' for the children providing items that are not regularly on sale at the canteen and endeavour to tie these days into events or activities that may be happening in and around the school.
Coming up later this term the canteen will be involved in Sports Day, teaming up with the Pedal Prix Racing Team, to hold a sausage sizzle and will also have a variety of drinks, ice blocks and flavoured donuts soon available to pre-order via Qkr. Further details to come in due course.
Welcome to all the new families who have recently become a part of our school community. Our school canteen is open Monday to Friday for both recess and lunch orders, with all orders placed via the Qkr app prior to 9am on the day required. The children are also able to purchase snack items, ice-blocks, slushies, popcorn & biscuits, over the counter at both recess and lunch. I also have recess specials with my current regular being a pita pizza slice for .50cents on a Friday.
Each week the canteen handles close to 400 recess and lunch orders, all of which would not be possible without the assistance of an amazing group of parent & grandparent volunteers who assist with food preparation, serving the children and packing lunches ready for distribution to the classrooms. If you are interested in learning more about our school canteen please either drop by or email wpps.canteen286@schools.sa.edu.au
Thank you for your support of our school canteen.

Book an Adventure
Book Week is a time to come together and celebrate the joy of reading. This year the theme was Book an Adventure!
We had a visit from the illustrator, Paul Rutter to celebrate Book Week. Paul is an author, illustrator and animator who has produced a series of workshop activity books as part of his drawing classes. Some of our classes drew Mini Beasts, Costal Creatures, Desert Species, Shipwrecks, Myths and Legends, Evolution of Dinosaurs and Ocean Creatures with Paul.
Paul explained to students how to start a drawing by using shapes and helped them develop skills with line, shape and texture.
Each student received an activity book where they could practise drawing animals relating to their theme.
On Thursday we had our Book Week Parade and it was a fantastic way to finish off our Book Week celebrations. Everyone dressed up in their incredible costumes from favourite and loved books.
Disco!
