Festival of Music 2025

When 13 of our students took to the stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for the Public Primary Schools Festival of Music Stars on Stage, they shone with confidence and pride.

Their dedication and musicianship showcased the incredible range of skills within our school community.

The Primary Schools Festival of Music is an iconic South Australian tradition that has inspired generations. It gives students the chance to experience artistic excellence, embrace cultural diversity, and celebrate social inclusion through the joy of performance.

Each concert featured 1,300 Year 5 and 6 students joining voices in a breathtaking massed choir. Audiences were also treated to Guest Artists from primary and secondary schools, vibrant performances across a range of musical genres, and impressive showcases from the orchestra and troupe.

This year’s concert opened with Robbie Williams’ electrifying Let Me Entertain You and closed on a powerful high with John Farnham’s iconic You’re the Voice, complete with stirring bagpipes that lifted the arena.

Stars on Stage was truly a spectacular celebration of what public school students can achieve when they come together through music and the arts. We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, passion, and brilliance on stage.

Special thanks to our wonderful HPI Sarah for teaching the repertoire, Dee and Kaci for supporting the lessons, and Kayla and Bethany for taking the choir to the off-site rehearsal and performance.

Thanks also to families, teachers and leadership for supporting the arts and making it possible for our students to have this unforgettable experience.

Student Learning Expo Evening

It was wonderful to see the engagement between students and families in their learning spaces on Tuesday evening in week 8. These moments provide students with a valuable opportunity to showcase their work and share the lessons they engage in each week at school. I acknowledge the significant time and effort invested by students and staff in preparing the displays, which truly highlight the high quality learning taking place. Beyond the classrooms, it was great to see so many families visiting the specialist classrooms and resource centre including EALD and the display of Mark Wahlqvist award entries for this year. Thank you to everyone who visited the classrooms and spaces, creating such a positive atmosphere. A special thanks to the pedal prix team for showcasing the sport, and the fundraising committee and volunteers for organising the BBQ, which was a fantastic addition to the evening and a great success.

EALD on Display

Thank you to all who contributed and also to all who visited our EALD display in the library foyer, during our school‘s Learning Expo.

We showcased books created by our 2024 & 2025 students and their families, who generously shared information about their heritage, including treasured traditions, and favourite cultural food recipes as well as some national costumes and fabric/art.

In addition to this, information about aspects of explicit teaching and supported learning of spoken and written English that occurs in our lessons, was also on display.

The language focus in our lessons has been on listening respectfully and speaking with increasing confidence and competence, as well as deconstructing different text types (ie narratives, recounts, procedures, descriptions, and arguments), by clarifying the purpose and then applying the language aspects and features, particular to each genre style, when writing.

We hope you enjoyed finding out about some of the cultural identity and english language learning what takes place in our EALD lessons.

Warm regards
Athina and EALD students

Mark Wahlqvist Awards for Creativity and Innovation 2025

Each year, the Mark Wahlqvist Awards give students the chance to unleash their creativity in response to the Book Week theme. This year’s theme, "Book an Adventure", inspired nearly 60 students to create and share their unique interpretations through drawings, poems, paintings, short stories, dioramas, sewing, and even movies!

The standard was incredibly high, and our judges found it so difficult to choose that they had to return for a second round to finalise their decisions. Entries were judged based on the quality of work relevant to each year level, and how well the theme was reflected.

The winner in the Reception to Year 2 category is Lucy Gobbett. Lucy’s adventure map was full of imagination and wonderful details! Her careful drawings and creative ideas really stood out and impressed the judges.

The winner in the Year 3 to year 4 category is Eva Hope. This vibrant diorama brings a truly original story to life, capturing the theme in a fun and imaginative way.

The winner in the Year 5 to Year 6 category is Jai Dev, Jai’s painting shows impressive skill and great attention to detail. His thoughtful use of colour, space, and expression captures a well-known story in a beautiful and imaginative way.

The Group Category Winners are Annabelle Falkenberg, Alathea Anders, Bethany Gum and Macy Bayliss, these students worked together wonderfully to produce a well-polished and imaginative piece of work. Each little carefully handcrafted figure adds magic and helps to bring the scene to life.

The Overall Winners for 2025 are Izzy Grunert, Olivia Falconer, Sienna Wigg and Pip Bishop, this incredible diorama is clearly the result of hard work, great teamwork, and a good understanding of the theme. The creativity and attention to detail made this piece stand out.

A huge congratulations to all our winners — and to every student who entered. Your hard work and imagination were admired and celebrated by students, staff, and parents alike.

It was truly wonderful to see such a variety of artistic expression this year. We hope you all had as much fun creating your entries as we did seeing them!

Here's to another adventurous Book Week — and even more creativity next year!

Market Day

Market Day was a process that turned into a very fun, successful two days. With 13 stalls stocked with food, trinkets, and games, there was something for everybody. Prices ranged from 50c to $2.00, so it was like a McDonalds loose change menu! The Year 6s learnt about money, budgets, profit, and loss in maths so they could efficiently run a business. It took a total of 10 weeks to get our businesses ready for sales. At the end of the first day, all the businesses had made around $800! Their favourite part of the process was setting up the stalls, which they decorated with themed accessories. It was such an awesome experience seeing kids point to posters, and talk about what stalls there were busting to go to, as well as parents giving their kids the money that supports the whole fundraiser. The whole process, from brainstorming to selling was a fun and unique way of learning business, which they are all grateful for. We hope Market Day was as exciting for you as it was for us! We thank the whole school community for their support, what an event to finish off a big term!

Walking Together with Kaurna

This week our whole school had the privilege of participating in the Walking Together with Kaurna program. Students experienced a special Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, where they learnt about the deep cultural importance of these practices.

Following this, classes took part in engaging workshops where students were able to interact with traditional Aboriginal artefacts, explore traditional practices, and gain an understanding of important cultural practices that continue today.

The sessions also provided valuable insights into Kaurna history, with students encouraged to ask questions and reflect on their learning. It was a powerful opportunity to connect with culture and deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and perspectives.

We are grateful to our incredible facilitators for sharing their knowledge and creating such a meaningful learning experience for our school community.

Science Week Show

During science week, Helen from the SciWorld team visited the school and demonstrated some amazing and entertaining science to all students from Reception to Year 6. We learnt about the effects of frozen nitrogen on balloons and also living plant material. We were amazed with the elephant toothpaste experiment. We were fascinated by how a universal indicator changes colour to indicate acids, bases or neutral. We learnt how oxygen is required as one of the three things needed for fire to occur as corn flour ignited and made a huge fireball when air was blown around it and a flame was introduced.  "With the precursor advice, 'Don’t try this at home,' this was very entertaining and informative science."

Glenthorne National Park

M6, M7 & M3 visited Glenthorne National Park and had a fantastic time exploring the area and learning about the local wildlife.

The students participated in a range of engaging activities run by Nature Play SA, including a minibeast session where they used magnifying glasses to closely examine the insects living in the creek. They also enjoyed a geocaching adventure, which combined exploration with problem-solving in a fun and interactive way.

One of the highlights of the day was the adventure playground, a favourite among many students!

Here are some reflections from the students about their experience:

"I loved the nature play because it has a really big slide" -Charlie Cox

"I liked Glenthorne National Park because I saw bugs I have never seen before" -Jack Floridis

"I liked Glenthorne National Park because I liked the painting and nature" -Eddie Bode

"The playground was lots of fun and I loved the slide" -Lucy Abbott

"The big flying fox was really fast and fun" -Claire Machin

"I liked Glenthorne National Park because the flying fox was fun!" -Max Roberts-Thomson

"Arlo Needs Glasses"

M1 & M2 read the book Arlo Needs Glasses and then we created our own unique glasses for Arlo the dog. These are now proudly displayed in our rooms.
