Mark Wahlqvist Award
For creativity and innovation
Professor Mark Wahlqvist AO, BMedSc, MB, BS, MD (Adelaide), MD (Uppsala) , FRACP, FAFPHM, FAIFST, FACN , FTSE is a physician who has held appointments in internal medicine , public health, endocrinology, clinical nutrition, and food and nutrition science , variously at universities and research institutes in Australia, Sweden, Indonesia, China and Taiwan.
Professor Wahlqvist AO, was Born February 5th 1942 , he was a pupil at Westbourne Park Primary School from February 1947 until 1952, when he went to Unley high School , and then Adelaide University. His fondest memories of his primary school days were the tram to and from school , the first year as a reader, the school tuck shop across Goodwood Road, recognition , playtime with marbles and hopscotch , the credence and belief of principled teachers in grades 6and 7, the lasting friendship with his refugee Ukrainian schoolmate, Ludomyr.
In honour of Professor Wahlqvist and his achievements, Westbourne Park recognises our students’ achievements in creativity and innovation by running the annual Mark Wahlqvist awards. In recent years the school has linked the award to coincide with Book Week. We use the current Book Week theme to give the students some direction in creating a drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, diorama or digital entry.
